Julia Sonnevend is a co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Communication, joining the new editorial team in September 2026. The Journal of Communication (JoC) is the flagship journal of the International Communication Association. It is published by Oxford University Press. It brings together research across media and communication studies, welcoming a wide range of theoretical perspectives, methods, and approaches.

Julia Sonnevend is co-director of the Center for the American Experience (CAE) at The New School, alongside historian Natalia Mehlman Petrzela. The center brings the arts, design, humanities, and social sciences into conversation to explore the United States’ past, present, and future, and its place in the world. Through public programs, exhibitions, performances, and collaborative research, it connects scholars, artists, students, and the wider public in discussions of American culture, public life, and democracy.
